Oz Podcast Group: Los Angeles, California

My name is Mark Elliott, Owner and CEO of Mark Elliott Media and The Oz Podcast Group in Los Angeles.

The purpose of this blog is to share my more than four decades of experience in radio, as a programmer, morning personality, and consultant with podcasters looking to launch, grow and succeed. As a radio programmer, I was among the first corporate programming executives to recognize the impact podcasting would have on the future of audio. By 2017, all of the stations under my supervision were involved in podcasting in one form or another.

Over the past three years, I have focused exclusively on podcasting. I decided the time was right to launch the Oz Podcast Group as a division of Mark Elliott Media, bringing together my experience both in radio and podcasting to help creators launch and develop new podcasts. Also, assisting established shows that have stalled and are struggling to get to the next level.

Podcasting has never offered more opportunity, or more competition. The good news is that great content, a smart strategy, and a clear understanding of your audience can still set you apart from the crowd. Whether you're thinking about launching your first podcast or trying to figure out why your current show isn't growing, I'd be glad to share what I've learned from more than 40 years in radio and podcasting. If you'd  like to talk about your podcast and where you want to take it, reach out to me at the Oz Podcast Group for a free 30 minute consultation. I would like to hear your story and see if I can help. - Mark Elliott

THE POWER OF FOMO

FOMO, the fear of missing out is kind of an outdated phrase but the truth is nothing stronger has come along to replace it, so I'm still going to use it

The most powerful tool you'll ever have to grow your podcast is the ability to create the Fear of Missing Out. If you don't create FOMO with every episode, especially early on, then your show is dead in the water, DEAD. You're as forgettable as junk mail. Before every show, it's up to you to identify what will make your listeners CBFM, come back for more. FOMO leads to CBFM. Perfect the ability to do this and in time, you'll have a successful podcast.

When you're building an audience, it's like filling a bucket with water, you keep filling the bucket until it overflows and when it starts to overflow, that's when you get paid. If you're bucket has a leak where you attract 10 listeners and 9 don't feel the FOMO, they don't CBFM and the one listener might become two, two then becomes four and it will take forever to grow. What will get you to where you want to go is keeping at least 50% or more of your audience that press the play button on your podcast.

How do you accomplish FOMO? By talking about topics your target audience cares about and offering a strong enough spin or opinion that will cause them to talk about you. Yes, it's more difficult that it sounds and that's why I am here to help you identify who your audience is and how you frame your content so they get a case of FOMO and CBFM.

Contact me at the Oz Podcast Group, and let's set up a free 30 minute consultation to discuss creating the Fear of Missing Out leading to your listeners Coming Back For More.
