My name is Mark Elliott, Owner and CEO of Mark Elliott Media and The Oz Podcast Group in Los Angeles.
The purpose of this blog is to share my more than four decades of experience in radio, as a programmer, morning personality, and consultant with podcasters looking to launch, grow and succeed. As a radio programmer, I was among the first corporate programming executives to recognize the impact podcasting would have on the future of audio. By 2017, all of the stations under my supervision were involved in podcasting in one form or another.
Over the past three years, I have focused exclusively on podcasting. I decided the time was right to launch the Oz Podcast Group as a division of Mark Elliott Media, bringing together my experience both in radio and podcasting to help creators launch and develop new podcasts. Also, assisting established shows that have stalled and are struggling to get to the next level.
Podcasting has never offered more opportunity, or more competition. The good news is that great content, a smart strategy, and a clear understanding of your audience can still set you apart from the crowd. Whether you're thinking about launching your first podcast or trying to figure out why your current show isn't growing, I'd be glad to share what I've learned from more than 40 years in radio and podcasting. If you'd like to talk about your podcast and where you want to take it, reach out to me at the Oz Podcast Group for a free 30 minute consultation. I would like to hear your story and see if I can help. - Mark Elliott

WHY YOU NEED A WEBSITE
Thanks to all the social media platforms, there are podcasters who believe they don't need a website because they cost money to design, build and maintain. If you happen to be one of these people, what would you do if your social media platform dropped you or worse, went out of business? It's highly unlikely the main social media platforms will go under but one wrong move and you could find yourself on the outside looking in or having to rebuild an entire following for simply saying or posting the wrong thing.
When you build your podcast by using your website as your hub and you condition your audience to access you through your hub, you're no longer at the mercy of any social media platforms whims or podcast apps rules. A website also gives you something else to monetize and can help offset any costs associated with having a website.
By creating a hub that allows access to your podcast, links to your social media, a blog (if you have one) you're creating a one stop shop. You can also develop a club to send a newsletter or offer contesting. You can also direct users to the apps that carry your show but it's just as easy to bookmark your website as it is to find you on an app. In fact, when you force listeners to go to an app, you're essentially sending them where they can find your competition. A website eliminates this dynamic. This said, you want to have a presence on every podcast app and on every social media platform but when you sell listening on your show, only direct listeners to your website. When you post on the socials, it's okay to promote your website and that you're on Alexa and most podcast apps by searching your name.
Look at your website as an insurance policy against the unknowns that exist on social media platforms and streaming apps.
If your interested in developing a site for your podcast, let's set up a free 30 minute consultation to discuss. Email me and we'll set up a time to speak.
